Julia Bryant is a Professor at the School of Physics, University of Sydney, an ARC Future Fellow, and Director of Astralis-USyd — the University of Sydney node of the national Astralis Instrumentation Consortium. She is the project lead and principal investigator for the Hector instrument, a multi-integral-field-unit spectrograph on the Anglo-Australian Telescope designed to survey up to 15,000 galaxies. Prof. Bryant’s research spans galaxy evolution, astronomical instrumentation and the development of hexabundle optical fibre imaging devices. She led the development of the hexabundle technology that enabled the award-winning SAMI instrument, and the larger-format hexabundles for Hector that achieve high fill-fraction imaging with regular hexagonal packing. Her work bridges fundamental galaxy science with innovative optical fibre technology development.
